Weekly Spelling Activities Ideas

  • Create riddles with your spelling words as answers.
  • Cut letters from newspapers or magazines. Use the letters to spell your words. Paste the letters into your notebook.
  • Design a cartoon strip using your words.
  • Draw and colour a picture that represents each word.
  • Make a set of flashcards for studying your words & bring your cards to school.
  • Make and complete a word search using www.puzzlemaker.com
  • Use each spelling word in a sentence that shows it’s meaning.
  • Use your spelling words to write a short story.
  • Write a definition for each word.
  • Write a letter to a friend or relative, in proper letter format, using each spelling word. Highlight or underline the words.
  • Write a poem using your spelling words.
  • Write a song or rap using your spelling words.
  • Write each spelling word as bubble letters in a rainbow of colours.
  • Write each spelling word. Next to each word, write one synonym and one antonym for each word.
  • Write each spelling word. Next to each word, write two additional words of at least 3 letters that can be spelled using the letters in the word. Example: the word concombre can be used to make the words mon, ombre, nom, bon, etc.
  • Write each word. Beside each one, write rhyming words.
  • Write your spelling words in alphabetical order.
  • Write your words with the letters all scrambled up. Then ask a parent, sibling, or a friend to unscramble the words in a notebook. Ask them to sign their name.
